Cutting forces and cutting quality in the up-milling of solid wood using ceramic cutting tools

Although many studies have focused on the cutting performance of ceramic blades in processing different materials, few reported their application wood processing. Thus, it is necessary to explore tools solid machining. The aims this paper were evaluate Al2O3 and Si3N4 process machining Manchurian ash (Fraxinus mandshurica Rupr.) Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata) by means analysing force surface roughness provide guidelines for factories applying manufacture furniture. Up-milling tests conducted each combination speed, tool material, workpiece was replicated five times. Results showed that (1) decreased with increase speed (2) resulting from using larger than those tools, especially when its extractives. Overall, can be used high-speed wood. Compared are more suitable wood, provided not only chemical stability, but improved final product quality.
